Kassandra “Kassi” Jane Ashbaugh, 35

Kassandra “Kassi” Jane Ashbaugh, 35, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton.  Kassi was born December 2, 1989, in Hicksville, Ohio, the daughter of Kenton L. and Sandra E. (Copeland) Brown.  She was a 2008 graduate of Hicksville High School. She continued her education earning a bachelor’s degree from Crown College and received a master’s degree in social work from Indiana University.  Kassi married her best friend, Alex Ashbaugh, on May 1, 2022, in Auburn, Indiana. She currently worked as a social worker at Dayton Catholic Social Services. Kassi previously worked as the Outreach Coordinator at the Food Bank, Springfield, Ohio, substitute teacher at Hicksville Schools, preschool teacher at St. John Lutheran Church, Hicksville, Ohio and as a leader for children and youth programs for Youth for Christ at The Hicksville Alley Youth Center. Kassi loved Jesus and was passionate about living out the Great Commission. She served Jesus as an overseas missionary from 2011-2019. Her devoted faith gave her the opportunity to share God’s Word with people around the world. Kassi’s home church was Grabill Missionary Church, Grabill, Indiana. Anyone who knew Kassi knew she loved to share her ability to sing. She cherished spending time with her family and especially loved her nephew and niece.

Surviving is her husband, Alex Ashbaugh of Dayton, Ohio; parents, Kent and Sandi Brown of Hicksville; brother, Kevin (Jana) Brown of Hicksville; nephew and niece, Brey Brown and Lena Brown; paternal grandmother, Kathryn Brown of Hicksville; maternal grandparents, R.V. and Janie Copeland of Cincinnati, Ohio; father and mother-in-law, David and Sandy Ashbaugh of Arcanum, Ohio. Kassi was preceded in death by her grandfather, Don Brown.

Visitation for Kassi will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.  A Memorial Service celebrating Kassi’s life will immediately follow in the funeral home beginning at 12:00 Noon with her brother, Pastor Kevin Brown officiating.

Kassi and Alex planned to return to the mission field. To carry on her ministry, the family plans to set up a scholarship fund to help others like Kassi who have been called to spread the Gospel.
