Former Bryan City Council President Mark Kelly was among those indicted Tuesday by a Williams County grand jury. Kelly was charged with felony theft. According to the indictment, Kelly is accused of stealing money from the society from November of 2009, to last August. Initial indications place the amount of money stolen by Kelly at between $1,000 and $7,500.
Kelly resigned as council president at the end of January. At that time, he said it was for personal reasons and a possible job relocation. The very next day, the Geneological Society accused him of the theft, saying that Kelly had “misappropriated” the money.
The former Bryan City Council President is due in court on April 30th.
The Bryan Times reports that if convicted, Kelly could be locked up in prison for a year and be hit with $2,500 in fines.
