Kermit E. Shank, 90

Kermit E. Shank, 90 years, of Ball Lake, Hamilton, and formerly of Bryan, Ohio, passed away Saturday February 24, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Kermit was born September 28, 1927 in Elkhart County, Indiana to the late John and Agnes (Christophel) Shank. He was a 1945 graduate of Wakarusa High School, then attended Tri-State University in Angola where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. Kermit married Norma L. Letherman on May 8, 1948 in Wakarusa, and she preceded him in death on January 27, 2012. Kermit was a WWII Army veteran, serving from 1945 – 1947. Kermit began his working career in Quality Control at Miles Laboratories where he worked for 16 years. He then worked at Elder Pharmaceutical in Bryan, Ohio. Kermit and his wife Norma were the co-owners of Sharp’s Decorating in Bryan for 25 years, retiring in 2002. Kermit was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church and formerly a 40-year member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan. He was also a member of the Hamilton Lions Club, the Hamilton American Legion Post 467 and Orchard Hills Country Club in Bryan. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling.

Surviving are his two children, Susan K. Ocker of Sylvania, Ohio and Thomas E. (Connie) Shank of Bryan; one granddaughter, Molly E. (Philip) Wolf of Portland, Oregon; great-grandson, Philip Wolf; one brother, Donald (Kathy) Shank of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, three brothers, Alvin, Ray and Kenneth Shank; five sisters, Gladys Ganger, Florence Schwalm, Marjorie Stevens, Irma Mishler and Lucille Messner.

Relatives and friends will be received at the Hamilton United Methodist Church 7780 S. Wayne Street, Hamilton on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of his service at 12:00 p.m. Noon on Saturday with Pastor Larry Dimick officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors accorded by the Hamilton American Legion Post 467. Arrangements have been entrusted to Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home & Crematory, 3985 East Church Street, Hamilton, Indiana.
