Larry Blair Bourquin, 80

Larry Blair Bourquin, 80, of Julian, North Carolina, died on October 4, 2013.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Johnson Cemetery, rural Archbold. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday at the Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold.

Mr. Bourquin was born July 25, 1933 in Wauseon, Ohio to the late Charles R. and Edna Traut Bourquin. He lived in the Archbold vicinity until his enlistment in the US Navy during the Korean War and became a volunteer in Submarine Forces, Pacific. He received his BS in Geology and MS in Geodetic Science from Ohio State University. The major portion of his career was with the US Naval Oceanographic Office followed by several years with AT&T Advanced Technologies. He conducted scientific studies in many countries and ocean areas, some as diverse as Norway, New Guinea and Egypt.

He was a member of the Julian United Methodist Church, The American Legion Post #81 of Liberty, NC, Moose Lodge #685, and a past member of The American Congress of Surveying and Mapping and The Marine Technological Society.

He is survived by his wife Carol, three children, daughters, Elizabeth Bourquin and husband, Alvan Allison of Ann Arbor, MI, Sandra Bowden and husband, Steven of Greensboro, NC; son, Michael Bourquin and wife, Holly of St. John’s, FL; sisters, Lynne Leu and husband, Dale of Archbold, OH, Janet Meyerhofer of Wauseon, OH; six grandchildren, Emma and Lucas Kennedy, Ben and Andy Bowden, and Morgan and James Bourquin.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Julian United Methodist Church, PO Box 35, Julian, NC 27283.

Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with local arrangements.
