Our dear Larry left peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2024. He was born on April 29, 1944 to Yale and Norma Salisbury in Hillsdale Michigan. He relished a childhood that was full of adventure, and mischief with his siblings. He was often deemed perfect by his “Sisties” and mother. A graduate of Waldron High School in 1962. He joined the Army on a whim and served honorably until 1965. When he returned home, he began a long career in maintenance at Stock’s Mill for 35 years.
On June 17, 1967 he married the love of his life Connie Fae. Together they built a life full of memories. He became a father to his loving son Shane in 1973, and again to his remarkable daughter, Tiffanie in 1976. He was most proud of his perfect grandchildren Nick and Emma. As bragging about Nick’s golfing skills and loving the “prettiest girl in DeKalb County” were among some of his happiest moments.
Larry lived his life with a big heart and a deep, protective love for his family. His laugh was contagious. He was a helpful and smiling face around North Central schools. He worked as a janitor, a bus driver, and was a longtime Eagles sports fan. He also never missed a Tuesday or Wednesday on the golf course playing “that sissy game” and laughing with his buddies. He loved everything about Case tractors, Elvis, Ohio State, and the Detroit Lions. He was a member of the Montpelier Moose and the American Legion Post number 307.
Larry’s appetite for food and life will be greatly missed. He was a ‘John Wayne’ style man who was the center of attention even though he didn’t try. His stories will be greatly missed as he always had a memorable spin.
Even in his last few months, he made a lasting impression on the caretakers of Evergreen Manor. He was known as Larry “Barry” or Mr. Steak , and they helped keep his spirits high. For this, his family was truly thankful.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Yale and Norma, his brother Jerry, his daughter Tiffanie, and his brother-in-law‘s “Babe”, Raymond, and Melvin. He survived by his wife, Connie, his son Shane (Michelle) Salisbury, his grandchildren Nick Salisbury and Emma Salisbury. Sisters Marella Gier, Carolyn (Russ) Lockwood, Sandra (Alden) Martin, and brother Yalen (Cindy) Salisbury, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry made his peace, but most of all he did it his way.
