Lawrence A. Bard, 97 years, of Bryan, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan. Mr. Bard was born December 9, 1915 in Bryan, Ohio, the son of the late Dale Randolph and Otha Mae (Young) Bard. He was a 1934 graduate of Bryan High School. Lawrence received his Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1941. He married Eleanor Himmelright on January 18, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on October 9, 1997. Lawrence worked in the family business, Bard Manufacturing, beginning in 1945. He was named Vice President of the firm until his retirement in 1981. Lawrence served the community of Bryan by serving on the Board of Public Affairs. He was a 62-year member of the Bryan Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233. He was a life member of the Ohio State University Alumni Association. Lawrence also was a member of several professional Engineering Societies. Mr. Bard was known as an individual who had a questioning and exploratory mind. Reading was one of his passions, as well as attending auctions and finding items for his many projects. He was very creative when it came to making repairs on just about anything. Lawrence was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan.
Surviving are his three daughters, Anitra Bard Webster of Lynchburg, Virginia, Barbara Bard Fox and her husband, John of Lancaster, Ohio, and Christine Elizabeth Everett and her husband, Charles of Hicksville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Seth Rinard (Emilie) Webster of Lexington, Massachusetts, Sarah Elizabeth Webster and her husband Paul Robinson of Seattle, Washington, Mary Elizabeth McGee and her husband Nathan of Lewis Center, Ohio, and Stephanie Ann Allen and her husband Matthew of Westerville, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth McGee, Benjamin Emerson Webster and William Lawrence Webster. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor and his brother, Randolph Bard.
Visitation for Lawrence A. Bard will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home – GREENISEN CHAPEL, 225 East High Street, Bryan where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2013 with Pastor Dick Buchsteiner officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery.
