Lillian Rosella Towns, 84 years, of West Unity, passed away Tuesday July 14, 2015 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, Defiance. Lillian was born April 11, 1931 in Williams County, to the late Harlan and Grace (Shaffer) Smith. Lillian married Morris W. Towns on July 17, 1948 in Bryan, Ohio. She worked at A and A egg company for almost 20 years until her retirement in 1993. Lillian also worked as a telephone operator in Kunkle. She was a member of Living Hope Free Methodist Church in West Unity. Lillian was a caring and giving person. She baked cookies and pies to give to people. She was an avid letter writer and remembered birthdays and anniversaries of relatives and friends. She loved attending local sporting events. Lillian brought many children to church and taught vacation bible school in her younger years. She loved to garden and sold vegetables from her home stand for many years. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special joy to her. Lillian talked to everyone and did not know a stranger. She will be remembered for her kindness and love of the Lord.
Surviving is her husband, Morris; 5 children, Vicki Stevens of Bryan, Ohio, Holly (Rick) Taylor of Pioneer, Ohio, Kay (Tim) Frank of Wadsworth, Ohio, Tim (Kim) Towns of West Unity, Ohio, Sheriff Steve (Lisa) Towns of Bryan, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; one sister, Margie (Ray) Gorrell of Centerville, Ohio; two brothers, George Smith of Wauseon, Ohio, and Maurice (Connie) Smith of Montpelier, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Elgie Smith, Russell Smith, Leo “Jeff” Smith, five sisters, Irene Werder, Mary North, Jean Stickroth, Pearl Whetro, Ruth Johnson, and one granddaughter, Victoria Lynn Towns.
Visitation for Lillian Rosella Towns will be held Friday July 17, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity. Funeral Services for Lillian will be held Saturday July 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at Living Hope Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Nick Woodall officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
