Local school board votes for new levy

Late last week, The Antwerp Local School Board approved a resolution to place a renewal of a permanent improvement levy on the November ballot. If passed, the five year levy would generate 2.9 mills annually.
The board also discussed the possibility of installing a new class for newcomers to the school. With a large amount of new kindergarteners and pre-kindergarteners coming to school in the fall, it was noted that many of the newcomers had summer birthdays and may not be ready socially yet for the class. Proposed was a “young fives” class, where members would receive modified curricula and could move on to kindergarten or first grade in the school year to follow.
While nothing was decided at the meeting, it was noted that similar class ideas had been successfully implemented in other districts.
