Lois J. Symington, 85

It is with saddened hearts that the daughters of Lois Symington announce the passing of their dear mother on August 24, 2020 at the age of 85 after a brief stay at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born Lois Jean Gall on July 14, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio, where she met and married her husband William Symington in March 1952. From Toledo, they moved to Bryan where they raised their family. She worked for a number of local factories providing for her family and took an active part in factory unions. She was widely loved by many in the area and was known for her welcoming spirit, encouraging friends and family to “sit long, talk much”. Serving God was very important to her and as a member of the Alliance Church she was involved in church activities such as hosting VBS programs in her backyard and tutoring students at Lincoln School. An avid reader, she could always be found reading a book (or two or three) and her bookshelves overflowed with everything from fiction to nonfiction. She loved a good bargain and was a familiar face at area garage sales. Family was extremely important to her and nothing made her happier than to have a house full of relatives, especially around the holidays.

Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Symington (November 28,1999) and infant son, Billy.

She is survived by four daughters: Sharon (Phillip) Deck, Karen (Mark) Mason, Dianne (Bob) Baer, and Jodi (Kyle) Hugg; a sister, Sandra (Tim Lutes) Bedegarea; twelve grandchildren: Scott Sulfridge, Stephanie Sulfridge, Will (Jess) Mason, Angela (Griffin) Johnson, Rebekah
(Alex) Cohen, Derrick Elson, Dallas (Tracy) Elson, Stephanie Baer, Shannon (Kyle) Gentz, Mallory (Preston) Carmen, Christian Hugg, and Shannon Hugg; twenty one great-grandchildren: Taylor Elder, Allie Mohre, Hannah Sulfridge, Liam Mason, Logan Mason, Olivia Mason, Finn Johnson, Isla Cohen, Maggie Cohen, Jalee Elson, Abrianna Elson, Maddox Elson, Cooper Elson, Ethan McLaughlin, Alex Gentz, Nia Gentz, Jasmine Baer, Jaiden Baer, Payton Aden, Alexis Partee and Owen Zeedyk; six great-great grandchildren: Roman Elder, Ace Elder, Raylyn Zeedyk, Kinsleigh Aden, Harper Mohre and Tatum Mohre (soon to be born). She is also survived by thousands of books and her faithful dog, Lennox.

Due to the ongoing pandemic restrictions, the family will receive friends while observing social distancing precautions. The family requests visitors use masks to prevent spreading the virus. Anyone showing any symptoms of illness are asked to please share their condolences by a phone call, email, text message, or leaving a condolence at the funeral home website

Service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, August 28 at Krill Funeral Home, 860 W. Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 pm followed by a celebration service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to either the Williams County Humane Society or Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
