Loud boom heard near Bowling Green Tuesday morning.

Did you hear it? A loud boom heard in Bowling Green Tuesday morning was “most likely” the result of a sonic boom caused by the 180th Fighter Wing. The 180th Fighter Wing was conducting a functional check flight between 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. in and around Lima, Bowling Green and south Toledo areas. They said that once supersonic speeds are reached, sonic booms may be heard. The 180th Fighter Wing said a check flight is conducted after heavy maintenance on an aircraft. The aircraft is put through “strenuous testing and maneuvers” to ensure that it is functioning properly and ensuring mission readiness.
