Lowell E. Applegate, 88

Lowell E. Applegate, 88, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, at Vancrest of Hicksville.  He was born April 15, 1934, in Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late Mervin and Irene (Volkert) Applegate.  Lowell was a 1952 graduate of Hicksville High School, and then honorably served in the U.S. Army.  Lowell married Sharon L. Walters on September 29, 1956, in Hicksville, Ohio, and she survives.  He worked as a machinist at Dotco for over 20 years, and was a life-long farmer.  Lowell was member of the First Church of Christ – Hicksville, and a former member of the Hicksville Presbyterian Church, where he also served as the choir director.  Lowell was involved in the Hicksville community throughout his life, and previously served on the Hicksville Schools Board of Education, sang with both the Northwesternaries Barbershop Chorus and sang bass in the “Four-in-Legion” quartet, and was active with the Huber Gang, who helped restore the historic theater.

Lowell is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Applegate of Hicksville; two children, David (Sheri) Applegate and Carolyn (Jim) Whitaker, both of Hicksville; four grandchildren, Ryan (Beth) Whitaker of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ross Whitaker of Denver, Colorado, Eric Applegate of Hicksville, and Matt Applegate of Hicksville; three great-grandchildren, Carson, Liam and Violet Whitaker; and one sister, Phyllis Amaden of Hicksville.  Lowell was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Lowell E. Applegate will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022, from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio.  Funeral services for Lowell will immediately follow in the funeral home beginning at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Jerold Tear officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.
