The Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office has appealed a decision from last month that gave a Toledo man a new trial for a 1992 murder. In 1993, Eric Misch was convicted, along with Louie Costilla, Joseph Rickard, Larry Vasquez, and Mel Vasquez, of killing Vernon Huggins in Wilson Park on Aug. 4, 1992.Misch, who was 16 at the time, originally confessed to being involved, but he quickly recanted and has always maintained his innocence. He was paroled on April 23, 2020, but continued his attempts to clear his name with the help of the Wrongful Conviction Project.
