Lyle R. Cox, 87

Lyle R. Cox, 87, of Montpelier passed away Friday afternoon at Genesis HealthCare in Bryan. He was born on April 30, 1929 in Bridgewater Township to Samuel and Mabel (McCord) Cox. Lyle graduated from Edon High School in 1947. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Tech Sargent during the Korean War. On August 10, 1957, he married Marjorie J. Houck in Angola, Indiana and she survives.

Lyle retired from Mohawk Tools in Montpelier as a tool maker after more than 30 years. He was a member of the VFW and the Williams County Saddle Club. Lyle enjoyed raising horses and German Shepards, and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie; four children, Randy D. Smith of Wolcottville, Indiana, Amy (Ken) Rosemond of Toledo, Rhonda (Mark) Despoth of Holland, Ohio, and John (Jenny) Cox of Pioneer; three grandchildren Christopher (Sarah) Brunsman, Luke Despoth, and Raina Cox; and two great grandchildren, Kennedy and Cooper Brunsman.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation for Lyle will be on Wednesday, April 5th from 11am-1p at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A service will follow at 1pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions may be given to Northwest Township Fire and Rescue.
