Lyn B. Houk, 78

Lyn B. Houk, 78, of Montpelier passed away Saturday at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on December 15, 1937 in Superior Township to Henry Albert and Hildreth Lenore (Drake) Houk. Lyn graduated from Montpelier High School in 1955. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during peacetime. Lyn married Rosalyn O. Mercer and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2006.

Lyn retired in 2005 from Winzeler’s Stamping Company after 50 years in the Maintenance Department. During this time up until 1980 Lyn enjoyed working the 100 acre family farm. Lyn also enjoyed being in the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping with his family. Lyn was a self-taught keyboardist and would often be found playing and singing for his wife. Lyn attended West Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Montpelier and was involved in the church choir. He was a member of the Montpelier American Legion Post.

He is survived by three sons, Randy (Tracie) Houk of Pioneer, Ryan (Beth) Houk and Robert A. Houk of Montpelier; two daughters, Renee (Jack) Daft and Robin (Ed) Yagelski all of Montpelier; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; three sisters, Pat (Dale) Pushee, Nancy Martin, and Sue Dewire all of Montpelier; two brothers, Roger (Jeanine) Houk of Coldwater, Michigan and Ric (Mary Ann) Houk of Montpelier; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Houk and Shirley Mercer both of Montpelier; and one brother-in-law Richard Seeman of Montpelier.

Lyn was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rosalyn, one brother Nic Houk, three brothers-in-law, Don Martin, Montie Dewire, and Allen Mercer, and one sister-in-law Janet Seeman.

Visitation for Lyn will be on Tuesday, August 9th from 2-8pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Wednesday at 11am at West Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Montpelier with Reverend Tawee Layraman to officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer with graveside military rites by the Montpelier Veterans. Memorial contributions may be given to West Bethesda Church or Williams County Relay for life.
