Mae Rose Marquis, 96 years, of Bryan, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 in her residence. Mae was born January 21, 1917 in Athens, Ohio, the daughter of the late Otto and Millicent (Paget) Rose. She married John Lee Marquis, Sr., a former Mayor of Bryan, in 1933, and he preceded her in death on November 11, 1993. Mae began her working career as a clerk for Mohawk Truck Lines. She then worked for Andres-O’Neil Insurance Company. Mae also assisted Henry Ford until she opened Mae Marquis Real Estate Company. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter.
Surviving are her son, John L. Marquis, Jr. of Bryan; one granddaughter, Sarah (Hunter Davis) Marquis of Bryan; six great-grandchildren, Skyler, Hunter, Destiny, Holden, Kayla and Cheyenne; one brother, William Rose of Utica, Ohio; three sisters, Lucille Watkins of Van Wert, Ohio and Marge Wiley of Lima, Ohio; She was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Pauline Gabriel and Martha Heffernan; one half-brother, Robert Tracey.
Memorial services for Mae Rose Marquis will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, with Rev. Becky Schofield Motter officiating. Interment was made in Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan. There will be no visitation.
