Marlin W. Mansfield of Bryan, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 7, 2015 after a brief illness. Marlin was born March 24, 1927 in Defiance, Ohio, the son of the late Otho and Orva (McCague) Mansfield. He was a 1945 graduate of Montpelier High School. After his graduation, Marlin served his country in the United States Navy, as a Machinist Mate on the submarine tender USS Sperry. Marlin spent most of his working career with the Ohio Gas Company, retiring in 1992 after more than 30 years of service. Marlin was an active member of First Brethren Church, Bryan where he served as a Trustee and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. He was active in the community as a member of the Bryan American Legion Post 289 and as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 121. Marlin was a participant in the Honor Flight, traveling to Washington D.C. to view the monuments. Marlin for many years, enjoyed traveling, working with Habitat for Humanity Program and participating in annual church mission trips.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, G. Lenore of Bryan, two children, Marlin Kee Mansfield of Bryan and Terry (Elizabeth) Mansfield of Palatine, Illinois; his daughter Kayta Lyn preceded him in death in 1993. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Todd Dierks of Bryan and Todd’s longtime companion Jo Ann Luce of Edon; three grandchildren, Christopher (Molly Fishell, fiancée) Dierks of Lincoln Park, Illinois, Melissa Mansfield and Michael Mansfield, both of Palatine, Illinois.
Funeral services for Marlin will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at First Brethren Church, 13050 County Road C, Bryan with Pastor Brent Sloan officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan with military graveside rites conducted by the Bryan American Legion Post 289. Visitation will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 225 East High Street, Bryan. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the services, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
