Mary A. Gauer, 91

Mary A. Gauer, 91, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, at Vancrest of Hicksville.  Mary was born August 4, 1931, in Payne, Ohio, daughter of the late Fred and Rosa (Boyer) Roberts.  After graduating from Payne High School in 1949, she married Robert Thiel, and that marriage ended in divorce.  She then married John H. Gauer, Jr. on April 16, 1976, and he preceded her in death on February 27, 2013.  Mary worked as a loan officer at the former Hicksville Building and Loan for 15 years and was an avid Mary Kay sales consultant.  She was a member of the Hicksville American Legion Post 223, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Hicksville Eagles Aerie #2556.  After retirement, Mary enjoyed living in Florida, and was very involved in the retirement community there, including serving on various committees, acting as President of the HOA, and working as a fitness instructor.   Mary enjoyed gardening, traveling, participating in various RV clubs, and playing cards at the Hicksville Senior Center.

Mary is survived by her four children, Deb (Tom) Metz of The Villages, Florida, Jim (Deb) Thiel of Hicksville, Rick (Jean) Thiel of Sherwood, Ohio, and Steve Thiel of Hicksville; two stepdaughters, Johanna (Bill) Edge of Coldwell, New Jersey, and Melanie Will of Hudson, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Tammy (Mace) Higgins, Tom (Wendy) Metz, Tricia Metz, Eric (Julie) Thiel, Lindsey Thiel, Andrew (Katie) Thiel, Cat (Dan) Dobecki, Kate (Justin) Lindsey, James Will and Rachel Will; eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; four brothers, Jim, Joe, Owen, and Charles; and four sisters, Wilma, Peg, Esther, and Elizabeth.

Visitation for Mary A. Gauer will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022, from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 P.M. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio.  Funeral services for Mary will immediately follow in the funeral home beginning at 2:00 P.M. with Celebrant Patricia Peter officiating.  Interment will follow in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.
