Mary Elaine Knight age 81, of Hamilton, Indiana, died at 10:30 P.M. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, in her home surrounded by her family, after an extended illness. Mrs. Knight was a graduate of Montpelier High School and received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from IPFW in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She taught kindergarten in the Edon Northwest School System, retiring in 2005, with thirty-six years of service. She was a member of the Edon United Methodist Church where she was a longtime member of the choir. She also enjoyed playing the piano, painting and basket weaving and attending all kinds of sporting events that involved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary Elaine Knight was born on May 24, 1936, in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of Elmer H. “Joe” and Elsie (Benedict) Miller. Se married Charles M. Knight on February 14, 1955, in Edon and he preceded her in death on June 28, 2013.
Survivors also include four daughters, Sherry (James) Steffen, of Waterloo, Indiana, Deborah (Earl) Mutzfeld, of Hamilton, Ann (Frank) Charlton, of Fremont, Indiana, and Cynthia (Jeff) Word, of Edon; one son, Charles A. Knight, of Edon; fifteen grandchildren, Chanel and Reed Steffen, Stephanie (Jamie) Hunt, Brandon (Jamie) Cox, Brian Cox, Tracy (Travis) Yontz, Chadd (Colleen) Myers, Jarrod (Sherry) Charlton, Jessica Charlton, Branigan Word, Lindsay (Kaleb) Presley, Christie (Steve) Trueluck, Brent Mutzfeld, and Lee Bard; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jean Love, of Medina, Ohio, and Ellie (Rex) Smith, of Bryan, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Miller.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon, Ohio. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. in the Edon United Methodist Church with Reverend Doug Widdowson officiating. Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery.
