Mary J. “Cookie” Brodbeck, age 84, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at 6:47 P.M. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance. Cookie was a proof setter at the Bryan Times for 28 years. She was a member of the Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233 and had attended First Baptist Church in Bryan. She loved cooking and tending her flower garden, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary was born on April 12, 1938, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Emil and Clara (Wittrongel) VanPoppel. She married Eugene R. Brodbeck on February 17, 1956, in Angola, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on January 23, 2018.
Cookie is survived by her sons, Rusty (Deb Smith) Brodbeck, of Bryan and Rocky Brodbeck, of Ney; her daughter, Robin (Jeff) Wollet, of Wauseon; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Michelle and Matthew; 5 great-grandchildren and sisters, Clara Mae (Dale) Kagy, of Westerville, Ohio and Lolly Brusladt, of Port Charlotte, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Joann VanPoppel and daughter-in-law, Mary A. Brodbeck.
A celebration of Cookie’s life will be held at the Bryan Eagles on Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 1:00-4:00 P.M. Krill Funeral Service, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan has been entrusted with her services.
Memorial donations are requested to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice.
