Mary L. Ankney, 67 years, of Sherwood, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016 at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan. Mary was born October 30, 1948 in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of the late Dale M. and Donna L. (Furney) Paxton. She was a 1966 graduate of Fairview High School. She married Dennis R. Ankney on December 15, 1966 at St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood, and he preceded her in death on November 27, 2014. Mary worked as a Program Technician for the Farm Service Agency in Defiance County for 16 years, retiring in 2009. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sherwood where she participated in the Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the Bryan VFW Post #2489 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to garden, tending to her flowers, helping Dennis on the family farm. What Mary truly treasured was spending time with her family. She recently joined a Corvette Club in the early months of 2016.
Surviving are her two children, Lisa (Dan Sileargy) Ankney of Columbus, Ohio and Kevin (Erin) Ankney of Franklin, Indiana; three grandchildren, Preston Ankney, Samantha Ankney and Jordan Ankney; seven siblings, Judith Ann English of Sherwood, Norma (Richard) English of Sherwood, Sally (Chuck) Reese of Wauseon, Dale L. “Butch” (Kristine) Paxton of Bryan, Dennis (Cindy) Paxton of Bryan, DeWayne L. (Tresa) Paxton of Kendallville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dennis and one sister, Sandra Stahl.
Visitation for Mary L. Ankney will be held Thursday, March 24, 2106 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 -8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Funeral services for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church, 09088 Openlander Road, Sherwood with Pastor Eric Moquin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation for Mary will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
