Mary Louise Appel, age 89, of Ney, Ohio, passed away at 2:50 A.M. on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Hillside Country Living, where she had been a resident. Mary was co-owner of Del-Mar Farms alongside her husband, Deloy. Mary also worked at Purdue University-Fort Wayne as secretary to the Director. After leaving Purdue University she worked at the Aro Corporation in Bryan and Elder Beerman in Defiance. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and served in the Ladies Aide Society. Mary was a volunteer for R&R with the Defiance Senior Center, was a mentor with Fairview Schools and she was a member of the County Cousins. Her favorite time was spent with her children and grandchildren baking cookies, bread and cinnamon rolls.
Mary was born on March 11, 1933 in Ney, Ohio, the daughter of William and Bertha (Smith) Mitchell. She was a graduate of Farmer High School and was Valedictorian of her graduating class in 1951. She was a 1952 honor graduate of the secretarial program of International Business College in Fort Wayne. She married Deloy E. Appel on November 6, 1954 in Farmer, Ohio and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2009.
Mary is survived by two sons; Edwin Appel and Kevin Appel, both of Hicksville, Ohio; one daughter, Sandra (T.J.) McClure of Hamilton, Michigan; six grandchildren, Sean (Trish) Appel, Brent (Christy) Appel, Jeffrey (Brooke) Appel, Marissa (Nathan) Hoffman, Jessica (Nick) VanDyke and Travis McClure and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a granddaughter, Katie Appel and one brother, William “Duane” Mitchell.
Funeral services for Mary Louise Appel will be held on Thursday September 1, 2022 at 5:00 P.M. at Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan with Pastor Daniel Broaddus officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the service. A private family burial will take place at Farmer Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Zion Lutheran Church or Community Health Professionals Hospice.
