Mary Margaret Hornung, 98 years, of West Unity, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Hillside Country Living, Bryan. Mary was born August 7, 1920 in West Unity, the daughter of the late Harry and Louisa (Lantz) Neuhauser. She was a 1938 graduate of West Unity High School and later was a graduate of Berkley Beauty School, Toledo. She married Wilford Lee “Bill” Hornung on June 18, 1944 in West Unity, and he preceded her in death on December 8, 2007. Mary was a beautician and had also worked as a machine operator for Superior Carbon Factory and later served as a janitor for the West Unity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the West Unity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was active with the United Methodist Women. Mary enjoyed working word puzzles, reading, sewing, crocheting and knitting and taking care of her flower gardens. She treasured the time she was able to spend with her family and friends.
Surviving are her four children, Ronald J. Hornung of Mansfield, MA., Rebecca (Craig) Rice of Cincinnati, Jane (Daniel) Short of West Unity and Jean (Thomas) Gerig also of West Unity; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, great-granddaughter, Lauren Crump; daughter-in-law, Theda Hornung and one brother, Clyde Neuhauser.
Visitation for Mary Margaret Hornung will be held Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 202 North Liberty Street, West Unity. Funeral services for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2019 in the West Unity United Methodist Church, 311 North Liberty Street, West Unity with Pastor Greg Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Monday.
