Maury, age 76, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021 at Maple View Farm Assisted Living in Hudson, MI. He was the only child of Neal and Pauline Godden Callender, born in Almont, MI on December 13, 1944. He married Marlene Ann Fulton on June 6, 1970. Maury graduated from Capac High School in 1963. After graduation from high school, he worked for area farmers and worked in Port Huron at Pontiac Motors. Maury entered the United States Army in 1965 and was stationed in Germany. After his term ended, he enrolled at Michigan State University. Upon completion of his degree in Elevator Management, he started working at The Andersons. He worked there for 37 years. He worked in the feed mill and later did feed trials and feed deliveries in the tristate area. After the closing of the feed mill, he transferred to the retail trucking division.
After retiring, he started his Ag products business. He sold and delivered hay, straw, and livestock bedding throughout northwest Ohio and southern Michigan. He also farmed with his son, Neal. They grew corn, soybeans, and baled lots of hay and straw. He enjoyed his livestock also. Maury had a farrow to finish hog operation until the 1990’s, then switched to raising beef cattle.
Maury was an active member of Fulton County. He was past master of Aetna Grange, a 4-H Adviser for the Farmers of Tomorrow 4-H Club, the Fulton County Ag Hall of Fame Committee, served on the Clinton Township Zoning Board of Appels and President of the Fulton County Pork Producers. In 2008, he was inducted into the Fulton County Ag Hall of Fame. He also helped his wife with her catering business for seventeen years.
He is survived by his wife; his son, Neal (Alysia) of Wauseon; daughters, Monica (Steve) Perry of Florence, SC, and Melissa of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by two grandsons, Graham Callender and Alex Perry; two step-grandchildren; Orin Perry and Sara Perry; and one step-great grandchild of Lexington, KY.
A public visitation will be held on February 8, 2021 at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon from 2pm to 6pm. Due to the pandemic, strict masking and social distancing rules will be required and followed. A funeral for Maury will be held on February 9, 2021 at 11am at the funeral home, with burial to follow at the Wauseon Union Cemetery. Pastor James Erven will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Fulton County Fair Foundation or Harvest Fellowship Church in Hamler, OH.
