Michael C. Muchnok, 90 years, of Sherwood, Ohio, and formerly of Spring Hill, Florida and Cambria, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio. Michael was born November 1, 1925 in Hostetter, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Charles and Anna (Bukovac) Muchnok. He was a 1943 graduate of Dunbar, High School, Dunbar, Pennsylvania. A World War II Army veteran, He enlisted in April 1944, and he served until his discharge in April 1946. He married Florence Dalessio on September 20, 1947, and the marriage ended in divorce. He then married Mary Elizabeth Walls on June 9, 1956, and she preceded him in death on January 16, 1993. Michael then married Bertha Ferns on August 5, 1996, and she also preceded him in death on January 23, 2015. Michael began his working years in the coal mines in Pennsylvania. He then went to work for General Motors in Detroit, where he faithfully served for 20 years. Michael ended his career as a Corrections Specialists for the Jackson State Prison, retiring in 1990. A devout Catholic, Michael was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, both in Spring Hill, Florida. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Knight and also served as a Past Grand Knight. He was also a Lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his younger years, Michael was an avid hunter. He loved to play Aggravation and bowl. He even bowled a perfect game when he was 70 years old. He collected seashells with his grandchildren and played golf.
Surviving are his three daughters, Linda (Jack) Brown of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Catherine Potts of Sherwood, Ohio and Theresa Hamrick of Sarasota, Florida; six grandchildren, Everet Hawk of Annapolis, Maryland, Christopher (Anna) Brown of Tanzania, Melanie (Tim) Morris of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, Sara (Jason) Thompson of Louisville, Kentucky, Jennifer (D.J.) Smith of Sherwood, Ohio and Jessica (Lee) Agee of Rougemont, North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Barbara) Muchnok of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and Daniel (Mary Gladys) Muchnok of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; one sister, Helen Puzak of Uniontown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his three wives; one brother, John Muchnok; one sister, Catherine Adams; one son-in-law, Billy Potts.
Visitation or Michael C. Muchnok will be Friday, September 16, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, where the Knights of Columbus Council 1915 will conduct services at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St Patrick Catholic Church, 610 Portland Street, Bryan with Father Jim Halleron officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by the Bryan VFW Post 2489. Removal will then be made to Turner Funeral Home, 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, Florida. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2016 in Florida Hills Memorial Gardens with Knights of Columbus Services and Graveside Military Rites.
