Michael “Mickey” E. Freese, 76, of Montpelier passed away Friday morning at his home. He was born on December 10, 1938 in Montpelier to Harley H. and Helen C. (Kelly) Freese. Mickey graduated from Montpelier High School in 1956. On June 7, 1958 he married Betty Lou Duncan in rural Pioneer and she survives.
Mickey proudly served his country in the United States Navy, retiring as a Master Chief after 21 years of service. He worked as a computer programmer for Mohawk and ARO for 7 years after he retired from the Navy. Mickey was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Archbold, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife Betty; two sons, Dr. Michael (Ellen) Freese II of Cincinnati, Ohio and Mark (Renee) Freese of White Lake, Michigan; one daughter Teresa (Greg) Scott of Montpelier; ten grandchildren, Christopher Freese, Matthew Freese, Abby Freese, Samantha Freese, Jacob Freese, Nathan Freese, Brandy Detrick, Erika Shoup, Allye Scott and Adam Scott; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Freese of Montpelier and Marty (Barb) Freese of Tucson, Arizona; and three sisters, Patsy Scribner of Delta, Ohio, Darla Shonk of Pioneer, Ohio and Marsha Kroff of Hicksville, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Ryan Freese.
Visitation for Mickey will be on Monday, March 30th from 4-8pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Tuesday at 11am at St. James Lutheran Church in Archbold, Ohio with Pastor James C. Strawn to officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer, Ohio with military graveside rites. Donations may be given to CHP – Hospice, Williams County Cancer Assistance or St. James Preschool.
