A man from Montpelier died in a crash Friday evening. The Ohio Highway Patrol say 87 year old Lavon Joice was eastbound on US-20 just west of County Road 15 Friday night around 8:30 when he lost control of his vehicle, and crossed over into the westbound lane, slamming into a vehicle driven by Roger Cordray of Toledo.
Joice was pronounced dead at the scene by the Williams County Coroner. Cordray was taken by ambulance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Montpelier where he was treated and released.
Police say black ice on the road at the time most likely contributed to the crash. They also say both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Police also think the black ice on the highway was behind at least two other crashes on US-20 Friday evening.
The investigation into that fatal Friday night crash is continuing.
