The Montpelier teacher’s union and the school board are meeting with a mediator, in the hopes of coming to a contract agreement. Due to disagreements between the Montpelier Education Association and the board, teachers at the school have been working without a new contract since July 31. In November, the board presented what Board President Nate Rose called the “last and final” offer. MEA members hadn’t had a chance to vote on that offer by the time of the board’s December meeting. At that meeting, teachers and supporters of the union spoke to express their displeasure in progress made on the contract. The board of education’s offer puts the base pay rate at $39,170 with many teachers taking issue with the contract only allowing three people to take a personal day at a time.
