Myrna was born April 28, 1931, in Manchester, Ohio, daughter of the late Pearl B. and Lottie (Redman) McGowan. The youngest of eight siblings, she was a 1949 graduate of Wayne Township High School in Cherry Fork, Ohio. After completing her studies, she married Charles Thompson and briefly lived in Oklahoma City. Myrna and Charles had three children, Cheri, Greg and Chris. After working at General Telephone, Global Life Insurance, ARO Corporation, and the Bryan Medical Group, Myrna served as an executive secretary at the Ohio Gas Company, and later as Secretary of the Board of Directors. She married James Tuttle on July 18, 1980, in Bennington, Vermont, and spent many happy years in a home that they carefully designed, built, and kept together. James, the president, CEO, and director of the Ohio Gas Company, preceded her in death on January 21, 2005. Myrna was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan. She had an artistic personality and especially enjoyed drawing and following fashion. Although she maintained hobbies including reading and cooking, she cherished spending time with and hosting family and close friends. The daughter of a veterinarian, she was a lifelong animal lover—especially dogs, including her late but beloved Sophie.
To Myrna from her family, we say, “it’s not goodbye, it’s a hui hou [‘til we meet again].”
Surviving are her two children, Cheri (Jim) Salsbury of Bryan, and Chris (Ronda) Thompson of Sunriver, Oregon; six grandchildren, Britany Salsbury (Jon Noble), Josh (Jenna) Salsbury, Jason Thompson, Amy (Joe) Gustafson and Andrew Thompson; and three great-grandchildren. Myrna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Tuttle; a son, Greg Thompson; and seven siblings.
