Nancy L. Wood, 86 years, of Bryan, Ohio and formerly of Toledo, Ohio, Birmingham, Michigan and Shelby, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, September 01, 2013 at Community Hospitals and Wellness Center, Bryan. Nancy was born June 24, 1927 in Shelby, North Carolina, the daughter of the late James Ogburn and Anne Mae (Webb) Lutz. She was a 1945 graduate of Shelby High School. Nancy received her Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University in 1949. She married her high school sweetheart, James Carver Wood, Jr. on June 18, 1949 in Shelby, and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until Carver passed on April 27, 2006. Nancy was a devoted homemaker and found great enjoyment in nurturing her family and meeting the needs of those she could. Nancy also played the piano and organ and she shared her gift serving in many churches. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Surviving are her two children, Chip (Tammy) Wood of Bryan, Ohio and Ann (Eric) Rehmann of Foristell, Missouri; three grandsons, Casey Wood of Bryan, Eric Richard Rehmann II and Mitchell Rehmann, both of Foristell, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, James and John Lutz and one sister, Marjorie Douglas.
Visitation for Nancy L. Wood will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Transfer will then be made to Lutz-Austell Funeral Home, 409 West Marion Street, Shelby, North Carolina where visitation will resume on Saturday, September 14, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with graveside funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. in Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Joe Collins officiating.
