Neil Twining, 85

Neil Frank Twining, 85, of Nettle Lake, Ohio and formerly of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on January 24, 2015 in the lake house he built at Nettle Lake with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 16, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio to Earl and Edith (Ahlfors) Twining. Neil graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1947 and attended The University of Toledo. On September 28, 1963 he married Loretta Clabaugh at Hope Lutheran Church in Toledo and she survives.

Neil was the owner and operator of the Twining Company, formerly the Mobile Industrial Cleaners in Sylvania, Ohio from 1967-1990. He continued to work for the company throughout his retirement passionately designing and fabricating outdoor furniture for golf courses until 2005 when he moved to Nettle Lake. Prior to the start of his company, Neil worked for a time at Champion Spark Plug Company in Toledo, where his father was Chief Engineer for the Indy 500 races.

Neil had a great love for golf and had achieved a handicap of 6 as well as 3 hole-in-ones. He was a member at Whiteford Valley Golf Club in Ottawa Lake, Michigan where he loved golfing with the “Dirty Dozen”. Throughout his retirement he enjoyed playing in scrambles at Hidden Valley Golf Club in Angola, Indiana. Neil was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Toledo for over 40 years.

Neil is survived by his wife, Loretta Twining, son, Mark (Melissa) Twining all of Nettle Lake, OH; granddaughter, Jennifer Twining of Toledo and one grandchild on the way; 4 nieces, Marsha (Gary) Welsh of Clearwater, FL, Andi (Tom) O’Neill of St. Pete, FL, Tina Moffat of Toledo and Laura Crary of Ojai, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Earl Twining Jr., Eleanor MacTaggart and Adele Twining.

A memorial service will be held on Friday January 30, 2015 at Hope Lutheran Church, 2201 Secor Rd, Toledo, OH at 11:00 am with Pastor Kevin Mackey to officiate. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Thompson Funeral Home, Montpelier, Ohio.
