Nelson Bergman, 83

Nelson L. “Nellie” Bergman, 83 years, of Ney, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 16, 2014 at Genesis Healthcare and Rehabilitation-Twin Rivers in Defiance, under the tender care of Southern Care Hospice.  Nelson was born August 30, 1930 in Ney, Ohio, the son of the late Edgar and Ruth L. (Hilton) Bergman.  He was a 1948 graduate of Ney High School.  Nelson married Mona Bailey in May of 1950 in Ney.  He then married Beulah “Boots” Nash on May 12, 1962, and she preceded him in death on January 10, 2004.  Nelson was Head Mechanic and co-owner of the Ney Oil Company.  He was a former owner/operator of two service stations in Defiance as well as working at George Briggs Ford.  He also worked in the maintenance departments at Campbell Soup, Fulton Tubing and LaChoy, retiring in 1992.  He was also co-owner of the Ney Factory Outlet and the Ney Restaurant as well as B & B Enterprises.  He was a member of the Ney Church of God and the Sherwood Masonic Lodge #620, F & A.M.  Nelson was a Ney village councilman for over three decades.  He was best known for his Indiana Melons he sold at his roadside produce stand along State Route 15 in Ney.

Surviving are his children, Carol (Andy) Bilbado of Defiance, Mike (Cheryl) Bergman of Sherwood and Rob (Faye) Bergman of Ney and Dwight (Kathy) Bergman of Ney; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Calvin (Charlotte) Bergman of Ney and one sister, Mary Carter of Bryan.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Beulah “Boots” Bergman.

Visitation for Nelson L. Bergman will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, where the Sherwood Masonic Lodge #620 F. & A.M. will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening.  Funeral services for Nelson L. “Nellie” Bergman will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Ney Church of God, 03413 State Route 15, Ney, Ohio 43549 with Pastor Kevin King officiating.  Interment will follow in Ney Cemetery, Ney, Ohio.  Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
