One man dies in apartment fire in Hicksville Saturday evening.

One man died in a downtown apartment fire in Hicksville Saturday evening. Firefighters from three Defiance County departments were called at 6:21 p.m. to a blaze at 103 W. High St. in apartments above the Subway restaurant. According to a press release issued by Hicksville Police Chief Mark Denning, firefighters arrived with heavy smoke and flames showing. They entered the upstairs apartments and brought out a male found inside, but “despite life-saving efforts,” he was “pronounced dead at the scene.”
