Patricia E. Appel, 65, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 6, 2023, in her residence. Patricia was born June 28, 1958, at Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville, Ohio, daughter of the late Thomas W. and Barbara J. (Wiedelman) Parrott. Patricia lived and raised her children on the family farm where she grew up. After graduating from Fairview High School, she briefly attended IPFW’s nursing program during which she took a hiatus to get married and start a family. On June 17, 1978, Patricia would marry Edwin Appel and they would go on to have three children: Sean, Brent, and Jeffrey. Patricia returned to nursing school at Northwest State Community College where she graduated with honors (Phi Theta Kappa). She worked at numerous hospitals including Community Memorial Hospital and most recently Paulding County Hospital where she cared for her patients in the Emergency Department. Patricia deeply cared for her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Memaw”. Patricia had a deep compassion for animals and always took in and cared for any that found her home for refuge. Patricia was an avid horse woman having raised many horses in her lifetime. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Patricia is survived by her three sons, Sean (Trish) Appel of Auburn, Indiana, Brent (Christy) Appel of Famer, Ohio, and Jeffrey (Brooke) Appel of Hicksville, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two siblings, Daniel (Helena) Bauer of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Carol Mayberry of Corunna, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael Bauer.
Visitation for Patricia E. Appel will be held Monday, November 13, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio. Funeral services for Patricia will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Chris Stull officiating. Interment will follow in Spindler Cemetery, Defiance County, Ohio. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
