Paul J. Dietz, 96

Paul J. Dietz, 96, of Hicksville, Ohio passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at Vancrest of Hicksville under the care of Promedica Hospice. Paul was born December 16, 1926, in Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late Edwin and Lulu (Dickerhoff) Dietz. He was a 1945 graduate of Hicksville High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II, until his honorable discharge in July of 1946. Paul married Dorothy Gustin on September 17, 1950, and she preceded him in death on August 25, 2020. He worked for Dana Corp as a material handler for 36 years retiring in the late 1980’s. Paul was an active member of Hicksville First Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder for over 20 years and taught Sunday School. He was also a member of the Tri-State Two Cylinder Club and the Black Swamp Tractor Club and Auglaize Village. Paul enjoyed farming, and mostly tinkering and fixing things. Inventing items to assist in the care of his farm, fishing, and bowling. Paul and Dorothy took several cruises over the years.

Surviving are his four children, Jack (Dianne) Dietz of Hicksville, Ohio, Dave (Becky) Dietz of Hicksville, Ohio, Kim Dietz of Churubusco, Indiana, and Dawn Finzer of Hicksville, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one nephew, Lynn Lantz of Defiance, Ohio. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; son-in-law, David Finzer; sister, Marian Lantz; one grandson and one great-grandson.

Visitation for Paul will be held Friday, August 18, 2023, from Noon – 2:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 N. Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio. Funeral Services follow at 2:00 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Minister Jerold Tear officiating. Interment will follow at Six Corners Cemetery with military rites accorded by combined honor detail: Hicksville American Legion Post 223, Farmer American Legion Post 137, and Sherwood VFW Post 5665.
