Rachel Mae (Lovetinsky) Grim, age 94, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 3:29 P.M. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan after a brief illness. Born in Champaign, Illinois, she moved to Toledo, Ohio, with her parents when she was in the third grade. After three years they moved to Bryan, where she attended Scott Country School and then graduated from Bryan High School. She spent the rest of her life in Bryan and was employed by Spangler Candy Company, retiring on March 30, 1986, with thirty-three and one half years of service. She was an active member of Lick Creek Church of the Brethren, where she served as Children’s Sunday School Superintendent and also taught Sunday School for many years. She also served on the church board, was chairman of the Witness Committee, was chairman of the Nurture Committee, and was a Bible School teacher and Bible School Director, Sunday School Secretary, Adult Sunday School Teacher and church historian. Rachel was also the writer of the Echo and served a President, Secretary and Treasurer of Women’s Work throughout the years; was Banquet Chairman; and helped with the Discovery Class and Junior Church. Rachel Heights Subdivision in Bryan was named for her as she and her husband developed it and the roads Anna Lane and Dorthy Drive were named for their daughters.
Rachel Mae (Lovetinsky) Grim was born on January 4, 1923, in Champaign, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Knott) Lovetinsky. She married her husband of seventy years, F. Vernon “Tubby” Grim, on July 15, 1939, in Auburn, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on April 30, 2010.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Verle Harner, of Bryan; four grandchildren, Jeff (Alma) Weston, of Williamston, South Carolina, Kelly Weston and her husband, Richard Mann, of Burton, Michigan, twin grandsons, Scott (Aimee) Harner, of Centerville, Ohio, and David (Amanda) Harner, of Defiance, Ohio; three great-granddaughters, Michelle and Lacey Mann, of Burton, Michigan and Angel Abanggan, of Williamston, South Carolina; and three great-grandsons, Aiden Harner, of Defiance, and Logan and Evan Harner, of Centerville, Ohio. Also surviving are three nieces, Sharon Webster, Sue Winebar, and Debbie Marvin; and seven nephews, Dick, Ted and Bruce Zigler, Elwood and Stan Gorom, and Rodney and Jimmie Lovetinsky. In addition to her parents and husband, preceding her in death were her two daughters, Anna (Grim) Harner, in 1988, and Dorthy (Grim) Weston, in 1975; three sisters, Martha Gorom, Mary Roudabush and Patsy Zigler; and one brother, Earl Lovetinsky.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home,860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. in Lick Creek Church of the Brethren with Pastor Bill Holsopple officiating. Interment will follow in Brown Cemetery.
