Ralph W. Merritt, 90, of Hicksville, Ohio passed away Friday, April 30, 2021. Ralph was born August 3, 1930 in Duluth, Minnesota, son of the late William and Margaret (Cody) Merritt. He was a 1949 graduate of Central High School in Duluth, Minnesota. Ralph married Leslie G. Sawyer on April 24, 1954 and she preceded him in death on October 1, 2003. His much loved companion of 15 years, June Gafken, passed away in 2018. Also preceding him in death are two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his three daughters, Carol (Barry) McRee of Cedar Park, Texas, Patricia (Tom) Adams of Decatur, Indiana and Sandy (Tim) Ball of Mesa, Arizona; six grandchildren, John, JoEllen, Katie, April, Johnathon, and Matt; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Ralph drove truck for Consolidated Freightways for over 20 years, driving over a million miles in his career. He was a devoted member of the Lakewood Park Baptist Church, Auburn, Indiana. He spent much of his time with his Amish friends and his passion was working on cars.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan, Indiana. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we ask that those attending visitation to wear a mask and observe social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those to make memorial contributions to the Amish Christian Day School, 7102 Hicksville-Edgerton Road, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
