Residents Resist Jail Plans

A call grows from people living close to the proposed site of the new Lucas county jail…to keep it out of their neighborhood. They say the site doesn’t make sense, saying it’s a residential neighborhood with lots of nearby businesses. That location is in Toledo, near the intersection of Airport Highway and Angola, on a roughly 30 acre site. The county says one advantage is that it’s considered a green field site, so it’s ready to build and you don’t need to re-mediate it or knock down buildings. Neighbors say the field sits in a residential area, not a spot for a jail.
