Rev. Mary M. Duke, 88 years, formerly of Sherwood, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015 in her residence with her family at her side. Mary was born April 10, 1927 in Bartow County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Dock and Alice (Cochran) Wiley. Mary married Haskell O. Duke in 1947 in Harrisonville, Georgia and he preceded her in death in 1979. Mary worked as a Pentecostal Minister in her home and was passionate about sharing the love of Christ to those around her. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, going to garage sales, and singing.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Kelly (Tim) Grandey of Hicksville, Ohio, Shelly Eriksen of Waterloo, Indiana, Larry (Brandi) Duke, Jr. of Waterloo, Indiana, and Denese Sexton of New Haven, Indiana; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy (Ruth) Wiley of Catersville, Georgia; three sisters, Ethel Waldron, Ellen Smith, and Frances Hall all of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell; her parents; two sons, Larry Duke, Sr. and Gary Duke; one grandson, Benjiman Duke; one daughter-in-law, Debra Duke; and three sisters, Dottie Earwood, Margie Hart, and Mildred Forsythe.
Visitation for Mary M. Duke will be held Monday, July 13, 2015, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 with Betty Penner officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery.
