Robert D. Wheeler, age 81, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away at 1:30 A.M. on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio, after an extended illness. Mr. Wheeler was a 1956 graduate of Bryan High School and a longtime employee of Fisher Automatic Vending in Bryan, retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Robert loved having his family together and enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening and playing cards. An avid sports fan, he could often be heard officiating a game from his chair.
Robert D. Wheeler was born on March 3, 1937, in Bryan, the son of Ray D. and Lucile (White) Wheeler. He married Sharyn M. Mekus on August 8, 1980 and she survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Julie (Dennis) Curry; a grandson, Kyle Wheeler; two great-grandsons, Wyatt and Ryder; his brothers, Fredrick, James, Paul, and Larry; and sisters, Joan Blomeke, Betty Edwards, Beverly Comden, Pauline Davis and Shirley McCreary. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Carolyn Wheeler, Anna Walker, Raymond Wheeler, Jean Rath, Evelyn Tarr and Richard Wheeler.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 610 South Portland Street, Bryan, with Father David Tscherne officiating. Visitation will be held in the church prior to the service from 10:00-11:30 A.M. Private interment will take place at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Krill Funeral Service Bryan, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
The family gives a special thanks to Dr. Kesireddy, CHWC Rehab Therapy and all the medical teams that cared for Bob over the years.
