Robert L. Kimpel, age 67, of Edon, Ohio, passed away surrounded by his family in his home on Monday, July 3, 2017. Robert worked as an assistant manager at Edon Farmer’s Co-Op for 13 years and then worked as a civilian technician with the Indiana Air National Guard’s 122nd Fighter Wing based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and retired in 2010 from the Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing based in Swanton, Ohio. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1969-1973. Robert farmed for many years and continued to enjoy farming in his retirement. He was a member of the Edon American Legion and enjoyed being an Amateur Radio (HAM) operator, being part of the Rowe’s breakfast group and driving around the countryside.
Born on March 3, 1950, in Angola, Indiana, he was the son of Ivan “Dutch” and Mary M. (Bunce) Kimpel. Robert graduated from Edon High School and received a degree in Agri-Business from Northwest State Technical College. He married Susan R. Rigelman on June 20, 1970, in Columbia and she survives.
Robert is also survived by his mother, Mary Higgins, of Bryan, Ohio; siblings, Rosemary Kimpel, of Bryan, Martha (Leslie) Bechtol, of Edon, Nancy (Will) Cramer, of Osseo, Michigan, Marie (Bob) Nord, of Elverson, Pennsylvania, Marcella (Darrell) Huard, of Bryan; and Alan (Barbara Steele) Kimpel, of Perrysburg, Ohio; stepsisters, Helen (David) Vance, of Virginia, Barbara (Barry) White, of Maine, and Marti Stuckey, of Kentucky; his mother-in-law, Helen Rigelman, of Bryan; many nieces, nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan “Dutch” Kimpel, stepfather, Floyd “Bunk” Higgins, and father-in-law, Ray Rigelman.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, July 7, 2017, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 8, 2017, in the funeral home. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Hillside Country Living Activity Fund, Community Health Professionals Hospice or the Williams County Humane Society.
