Robert E. Schafer, age 75, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 3:55 A.M. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Schafer had worked at Chase Brass for 24 years in custodial and processing areas prior to his retirement. He was an avid Kansas City Royals baseball fan and Kansas City Chiefs football fan and followed NASCAR racing. He was also a long-time coach of Little League baseball in Bryan.
Robert E. Schafer was born on January 21, 1939 , in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Harry F. and Leona B. (Dobbs) Schafer. He married Ina Kay Gambler on July 26, 1975, in Bryan, Ohio, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Evelyn (David) Colbert, of Bryan, Ohio; sons, Howard Shiever, in Kansas, Harry Shiever, of West Unity, Ohio, and Bryan Shiever, in Arizona; five grandchildren, Hannah Colbert, twins, Ava and Parker Colbert, Sara Shiever and Keanu Haessler; a great-granddaughter, DeAnna Blakely; and sisters, Pearl (Bob) Gibson, of Harrisonville, Missouri, Patricia (Jack) Pendley, of Houston, Texas, Betty Sheridan, of San Antonio, Texas, and Joyce Branch, of Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sonny Schafer; and sisters, Lola Schafer and Genevieve Hughes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Bryan, with Pastor Don Harris officiating. Interment will be in Ney Cemetery, Ney, Ohio.
