Roland L. Cook, 85, of Montpelier passed away Tuesday evening at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier. He was born on July 30, 1930 in Montpelier to Lester Eugene and Naomi (Wines) Cook. On January 27, 1953 he married Frances Juanita Petre in Angola, Indiana and she survives.
Roland proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War as a medic. He worked at Mohawk Tools in Montpelier as a finish grinder for 44 years until its closing in 1991. Prior to that he worked on the Wabash Rail Road for a short time. Roland attended the Montpelier Church of Christ and he was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by his wife Juanita; one son, Lester E. “Gene” Cook of Bryan; and one sister Connie Smethers of Fort Wayne, Indiana. In addition to his brothers and sisters he also had 4 half-sisters and 3 half-brothers.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, one son Phillip L. Cook, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Graveside services will take place Friday, August 21st at 1pm at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier with Chris Kannel to officiate. Military Rites will be provided by the Montpelier Veterans. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Montpelier Church of Christ.
