Rose Marie Butcher, 83, of Montpelier, passed away early Sunday morning at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier. She was born on August 12, 1932 in Montpelier to Henry A. and Lucy (Gee) Majean. Rose graduated from Montpelier High School in 1950 and attended Bowling Green State University where she graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She married John D. Butcher on June 6, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier and he survives.
Rose was a teacher for 34 years. She started her teaching career at Montpelier Local Schools and also taught for some time at Heath Local Schools in Heath, Ohio. The majority of her teaching career was spent teaching at Massillon City Schools in Massillon, Ohio. Rose was a member of the Williams County Retired Teachers Association, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and while in college was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority at BGSU. She loved to cook, clean and go shopping.
Rose is survived by her husband, John D. Butcher of Montpelier; one daughter, Andrea (Mike) McWright of Rineyville, KY; one sister, Patricia Radabaugh of Montpelier; one brother, Mike (Joan) Majean of Green Valley, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Nancy Adams and two brother-in-law’s, Wally Adams and Leon Radabaugh.
Visitation for Rose will be held on Wednesday April 6, 2016 from 4-8 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home, 204 East Main Street in Montpelier, with a scripture service at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will take place on Thursday morning, April 7, 2016 at 10 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier, with Father Jim Halleron to officiate. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rose’s memory.
