Ruby Yates, 84

Ruby D. Yates, 84 years, of Bryan, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Ruby was born June 25, 1931 in Grundy, Virginia the daughter of the late Linkous and Maggie (Stiltner) Skeens.  Ruby was the owner of the former Yates Restaurant in Bryan.  She had also worked at the 50 Corp as well as providing home health care to several area families.  She was a member of the Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233 and a former member of the AMVETS Post 54.  She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and tending to her flowers as well as spending time with her family.

Surviving are her two children, Pearl (Gary) Cooper of Bryan and Wayne Yates of Bryan; five grandchildren, Doug (Edie) Stiltner of Bryan, Monty (Cheryl) Stiltner of Sherwood, Timothy Yates of Brunswick, Georgia, Jeffrey (Jenny) Yates of Salt Lake City, Utah and Dewey Yates of Galax Virginia; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two former daughters-in-law, Kim Stiltner and Carrie Yates; one sister, Delphia (Willard) Looney of Abingdon, Virginia.  She was preceded in death by her parents and 13 siblings.

Visitation for Ruby D. Yates will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home – Lynn Street Chapel, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 with Pastor Michael Lashaway officiating.  Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, Bryan.
