Sharon Lee (Smith) Helbig, 73

Sharon Lee (Smith) Helbig, age 73, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 7:07 P.M. on Friday, February 24, 2017, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, near Defiance, Ohio, after an extended illness. Mrs. Helbig was a 1961 graduate of Stryker High School and received an Associate Degree in Accounting from International Business College. She worked for the Williams County Treasurer’s office from 1986-2005 and went on to become Williams County Treasurer, serving from 2005-2012. Prior to her tenure with the Treasurer’s office, she spent many years providing in-home child care. Sharon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan, the Altar Guild at the church and for many years was the financial secretary of the church. She was a member of the Ohio State Treasurers’ Association and the Bryan Young Homemaker’s Club and was proud to have been a Breast Cancer Survivor since 1996. She also enjoyed her time with friends at Card Club. Most of all, Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. We will hold her in our hearts as a woman of family, service to others and a believer in God.

Sharon Lee Helbig was born on March 1, 1943, in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of Leo L. “Jeff” and Nadene Lee (Fleagle) Smith. She married James Paul Helbig on July 6, 1968, in Stryker, Ohio, and he survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Stacy (Joe) Knueve, of Kalida, Ohio; two sons, Jonathon (Heather) Helbig, of Gibbstown, New Jersey, and Joel (Sarah) Helbig, of Toledo, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jillian Knueve, of Kalida, Kaitlyn Helbig, of Gibbstown, New Jersey, and Grant and Samuel Helbig, of Toledo; one brother, Charles (Trudy) Smith, of Nelsonville, Ohio; and her beloved dog, “Larry.” She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, from 3:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Services will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Bryan, with Reverend Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. Visitation will also be held in the church for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Evansport Cemetery.
