Shelby Gene Smith, 68 years, of Edgerton, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 at Parkview Nursing Center, Edgerton. Shelby was born July 25, 1946 in Aberdeen, Kentucky, the son of the late James and Ethel (Phelps) Smith. He was a 1964 graduate of Butler County High School, Morgantown, Kentucky. Shelby served in the United State Army during the Vietnam Era. Shelby drove truck, was a Tug Boat Captain and also worked in construction. In his younger years, Shelby worked in the Oil Fields in Texas and also at General Electric in Fort Wayne. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Surviving is his four children, Tommy (Pamela) Smith of Lumber Bridge, North Carolina, Robert (Kim) Smith of Edgerton, Jim (Cindy) Smith of Butler, Indiana and Dawn King, also of Butler, Indiana; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
There will not be any visitation and services will be private. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio.
