Shirley A. Childers, age 85, of Wauseon passed away Sunday September 25, 2016, at Fulton Manor in Wauseon. For the majority of her life she resided on her beloved family farm on County Road E, Wauseon OH. Prior to her retirement, she had worked at the former McCord Corporation in Wauseon for many years.
Shirley was born in Swanton, Ohio, on June 17, 1931, the daughter of the late Ray C. and the late Daisy (Deck) Hoffman. Shirley graduated from Wauseon High School in 1949. On August 19, 1950, she married the love of her life Warren F. “Jake” Childers, and he preceded her in death in 2005.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and had a great love of animals.
Surviving are her children: Marcia (Patrick) O’Connor of Luna Pier, MI; Mark Childers of Wauseon, OH; Brenda (David) Kuntz of Sylvania, OH; two granddaughters, Danielle Childers (Gabe) Stanley of Fenwick, MI and Josie Dakota Kuntz of Sylvania, OH; grandson John Kuntz of Sylvania, OH. Also surviving are two great-grandsons Bretten Stanley and Bryce Stanley both of Fenwick, MI and great-granddaughter Delilah Dakoka Kuntz of Sylvania,OH, and cousins: Joan Tilse of Wauseon, OH, and James Sullivan of Akron, OH and Larry Deck of Ann Arbor, MI. Nephews include, Ted Williams of Arlington, VA, and Tom Williams of Fort Myers, FL. Brother-in-law Harold Arthur Williams of Fort Myers, FL, also survives.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, September 29, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Wauseon with Pastor John Shirley officiating. Interment will follow in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00pm at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon, and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the Humane Society, charity of the donor’s choice or the First Baptist Church in Wauseon.
