Spencer Albert Meloun, 82

Spencer Albert Meloun was the only child of Albert L. and Honora (Klein) Meloun, born on Oct. 5, 1942, in Parma, Ohio. He received his wings and halo on Oct. 30, 2024 at age 82. He graduated from Parma High School in 1960 and Baldwin Wallace College in 1965. He also served his country proudly as a member of the Army Reserve. On Oct. 4, 1969, he married Williams County girl Sue A. Goshorn.

He was a member of the West Unity Presbyterian Church and former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Montpelier, where he served as an elder. Beginning in 1972 and continuing until 2024, he was a self-employed tax accountant and an IRS enrolled agent. Spencer was also well known for his love of cars, especially convertibles. He was very active in the planning of the Empire Street Cruise Ins and was a staple in the Bean Days parade in his 1968 Buick Wildcat Convertible (affectionately known as “Wilma the Wildcat”).

Spencer followed three rules throughout his life: 1) following God’s rules; 2) loving his country; and 3) keeping his word. He loved relationships and was able to connect with people of all backgrounds with ease. Relationships were very important to him and he felt extremely lucky to be able to say goodbye to people at the end.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sue; children, Jalane M. Meloun of Hollywood, Florida, and Grant J. (Stacy) Meloun of Hilliard, Ohio; grandchildren, Keegan, Brendan, Brant and Zellen Meloun; and numerous family members. Spencer was preceded in death by his parents.
