Sheriff, Steve Towns will not appear on the Republican primary ballot after a hearing by the Williams County Elections Board. At issue was the viability of his candidacy after a Nov. 5, 2019, conviction in Bryan Municipal Court on a first-degree misdemeanor charge of disseminating confidential information about a child abuse case. All three of the challengers on the ballot filed protests, saying Towns was unable to run because of the conviction. The board unanimously came to the decision that Towns had to be removed from the ballot. Towns is planning on appealing the board’s decision.
