Village of Hicksville to dedicate new war memorial

The village of Hicksville plans to honor veterans with the dedication of a newly completed memorial monument during Veterans Day weekend. The Bryan Times reports at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, the corner of Bryan and West Arthur Streets in Hicksville will be the dedication of th memorial. The memorial, designed by Defiance resident Mark Homier of Homier’s Monumental Inc., will honor all five branches of the armed forces via large memorial tablets made of American black granite quarried in Pennsylvania. They are arranged in an arc, with each dedicated to a different branch. The process took about two years and about $185,000 raised through fundraisers and individual and private donations. A lunch reception will be held after the dedication at the Rotary Pavilion in Hicksville, where a freewill offering will be collected.
